Prohibition banned the manufacture and transportation and sale of alcohol over 0.5%. Because of this there was an increase of illegal production of the sale of liquor. Speakeasies were secret places were alcohol was consumed. There were many protests and riots f America in the streets from people that wanted to end prohibition. In 1933 the 21st amendment contradicted the 18th amendment, therefore prohibition came to a close.
