7 Energy levels

We used the 7 levels of energy to relate to our characters in Bugsy Malone.

The gang walk around in a tight formation. This formation suggests to the audience that we are intimidating, this is because we are all so close together. If we were all walking around in random spaces dotted out by ourselves it wouldn't look as effective because we wouldn't be as powerful on our own. However by being all together all of our power and status are joined together. Firstly our energy level is a 5, we walk with our right leg first followed by our left. By walking on the same leg throughout it further emphasises the fact that we are a close connected group.

We then change our guns together in a circle then we switch our formation round with our guns held out to the left. By holding guns we show to the audience that we have authority over other, this is because the guns allow us to intimidate others. This was important that we portrayed this because the gangs in "Bugsy Malone" are intimidating to others. For example when "Dandy Dan's People" burst into "Fat Sam's Grand Slam" they change the whole mood and atmosphere of everyone in there. They were able to do this because they could scare everyone by shooting their guns. Our energy level is then a 6 so then we are faster but still all together. This shows that we have somewhere that we have to be soon, this also shows how our characters are quite aggressive because we are walking faster. By walking faster we suggest that nobody can get in our way and we can go wherever we want without anyone stopping us.After we then shoot all together.

Our facial expressions are firm and quite aggressive, this is because we a gang and we are supposed to be intimidating to others. This was one of our strengths because the audience could see what characters we were portraying by the different facial expressions that we had. This is important because we were supposed to be aggressive and intimidating characters so if we had happy and smiley faces then it wouldn't look as effective because that wouldn't be the nature of our characters. Another one of our strengths was that during the lesson we had good communication. This helped us because when we were creating the movement we listened to each others ideas, we used these to improve or change different things within it. This was also an advantage because we knew what we were doing at all times. It wouldn't have looked as effective if some people in the group were not sure o what they were supposed to be doing, however because we did it worked well.

We have different mannerisms such as sometimes we cross our arms this shows that we are aggressive whilst we are in the gang together. Initially this was a weakness of our group because we were not sure where to put the different actions into it. However after a while we disused different ideas such as crossing arms and the way that we walk and we worked them into the routine.
