Learning the Charleston
In this lesson we started learning the basic Charleston step, once we had got the basic rhythm and steps for this we added a flick and a floor touch to this. This made it look better to the audience as i adds different levels and movements. After we had learnt this we learnt some other dance moves such as "the box step". We then got into pairs and learned routines.
In this rehearsal my strengths were that i was able to do the movement, this helped me and my partner because we were able to move on quickly to the next part of the choreography. For example when we were learning how to slide through our partners legs, we were the first ones to be able to do this successfully. This meant that we were able to help other pairs in our class. However when we were filming, this section went sightly wrong and we got mixed up and it was unsuccessful.
I also found that i had some timing issues in this run through, i was not so much of a problem in the first parts of the choreography but in the latter section. However me and my partner worked through this with the music to try to improve our timing, we found that we were going too fast at one particular section, we then found that if we waited for a couple of counts before starting the next movement we were in time with the music.
My targets for the next lesson is to listen to the timing and the rhythm of the music whilst working through choreography. This is so all of the dance will be in time with the music and with the other dancers in my group.
This is an example of the Charleston on strictly come dancing, it incorporates fast and sharp movements that were typical of the 1920s era. These are also typical costumes and the charleston is usually performed with the girls wearing flapper dresses that are often bright colors and the man wearing a smart suit and tie.
