Thursday 26th March 2015 - First Run Through Of Our Country's Good
Thursday 26th March 2015
First Run Through Of Our Country's Good
In todays lesson we did our first full run through of the play. The first physical theatre scene went well, when we first started we were standing up holding each other up, when we are like this we are gently swaying to show the movement of the ship. When we drop down we are supposed to keep swaying, however when we did it today we didn't, in the next run through we need to make sure that we continue to sway so that it is clear that we are on the ship still, as we are moving with it. When the music changes we all have to get off of the ship, this worked well today because everyone in the scene reacted appropriately. For example some of us covered our eyes, to show that the convicts were not used seeing the light as we have been locked away in the dark for months. We also bent down to the floor and picked up sand with our hands, this is also because we are not used to seeing the outside. When we made the transition into scene 3, I have to start my line when the aboriginal music is still playing. When we did this scene today I noticed that I need to go over my lines because I was getting confused with different cue lines and therefore we missed out large parts of the text. To improve on this me, Pheobe, Alex and Abi need to work on this scene together so that we can all get used to our cue lines so that we can say our correct lines. As well as this I think that personally I need to move around the space more comfortably so that my characterisation improves more.

Thursday 19th March 2015 - Performing To The Other Class
Thursday 19th March 2015
Performing To The Other Class
In this lesson we had to perform act 2 scene 1-5, when doing Liz,s monologue everything went well as we had rehearsed this many times in recent rehearsals. Everyone in the cast remembered everything, as well as this our spacing was good, this made sure that no one bumped into each other and we were able to move around fluently around Charley. I also thought that our timing was good, we moved around as the monologue was being performed, this was good because what we were doing matched what was being said, this helped the audience understand what the monologue was about.
When me and George were doing the scene when Ralph Clark is talking to Arthur Phillip. This scene did not go well, neither me or George were 100% sure on our lines and therefore we had a big silence and had to wait to be prompted because we didn't know what we were saying. To make sure that this doesn't happen again we are going to practise our lines together so that we can familiarise ourselves with the movement and lines.

Tuesday 10th March 2015 - Scene 3 Of Act 1
Tuesday 10th March 2015
Scene 3 Of Act 1
In todays rehearsal we started form the beginning of act 1, firstly with the first physical theatre part. We changed the first part, from starting on the floor to be standing in a curved line being tied together, we have to be slouched over, suggesting that we have been there for a long time and are exhausted. We slowly sway side to side to show the movement of the ship, when Sideway is being flogged we gradually fall down to our original positions, and then we carry on with the scene as it was before. We then carried on with scene 3, many of our lines still needed learning and therefore we struggled with keeping the energy up, because of this we worked together when the cast was going over some other scenes, we focused on knowing our cues and moving around.

Friday 6th March 2015 - Articulation Exercise
Friday 6th March 2015
Articulation Exercise
Articulation - This is how you use your voice to pronounce your notes, for example long, smooth notes (legato) and short, sharp notes (staccato).
Exercises - Singing scales with only staccato notes whilst pronouncing "Ha". Making sure that these are short and sharp, after singing this, sing legato notes on a scale. Making sure that it is just one continuous note.
Applying different styles - When singing these scales, sing them at the bottom of your range, then middle followed by the top. This is because it will also help to expand your range by helping you sing both lower and higher than where you can comfortably sing now, over time you should notice that you find it easier to sing at different pitches and therefore can continue to expand your range further. Try singing these scales using different sounds, for example "ee", "ah" and "oo" , this helps your voice to warm up before singing a song. This is because your voice is getting used to making different sounds rather than just one sound. Another way to develop this is to sing these using different dynamics, this then also improves projection.

Thursday 5th March 2015 - First Run Through Of Act 2 Of Our Country's Good
Thursday 5th March 2015
First Run Through Of Act 2 Of Our Country's Good
In this lesson we did our first run through of act 2, our aim was to get through the whole of this, however we only did scenes 1,2 3, 4, of 5,6 and 10. One of the main reasons we didn't get through was because as a class, the majority of our lines were not learnt. This meant that we were unable to move quickly through the scenes as we kept on having to be prompted. As well as this some of us kept slipping out of character because we were worried about whether or not we knew our lines. I think that before we can do a successful run through everyone in the cast will need to know their lines, this is because many of the scenes are conversations with a large number of people and therefore we cant just rely on ourselves to know our lines, we need to rely on each other to make sure that we get the correct cues of when to say our lines.
When doing scene 2 I found that i was walking too fast in the beginning and therefore I was just standing awkwardly later in the scene, because i had already walked where i was supposed to. In the next rehearsal i need to walk slower and with more gaps, this is so i am not just walking in circles throughout the whole scenes. I need to improve on my lines in this scene so that i am not coming out of character continuously, i kept doing this when i was asking for a prompt. When doing scene 10, we missed out half of it as many people didn't know their lines so we had to skip many parts. I knew some of my lines however i still need to improve by the next rehearsal to make sure that we can go through the scene fluently.
