Thursday 10th December 2015 - Durington High School Workshop

Today we visited Durrington High School  to do a workshop with them, this gave us an opportunity to test the material that we have currently have in front of an audience, this has allowed us to see how an audience would react the performance. We showed the prologue, Officer Krupuke, I feel Pretty, Tonight and the Rumble, this is because it is is a variety of different numbers that introduce the characters and the relationships between those, for example the Sharks and the Jets, Tony and Maria. Because we had to perform in a different space compared to the Sealight, we had to adapt spacing and change the way we exit and enter, this is because we didn't have different levels to use, this meant that we had to create them more with some of us kneeling and others standing etc. I think that our performance went well, this is because we communicated well with each other and we had also choreographed smooth transitions between numbers. This was important like in any other performance that when moving on and off stage not to distract the audience from what is being performed.

After our performance we worked with the children with stage combat, we explained the rules of this to them so that no one got hurt whilst doing this, they got into pairs and then choreographed their own stage fight, once they had done this they performed it. After we had done this we got some feedback from the audience, they enjoyed the performance and had some questions about when we were performing the final version of this, this showed that they were interested in coming to see it. Overall i thought this workshop went well, the audience responded well to what we showed and taught them, therefore we were able to successfully promote our show as well as trial our material.
