The musical is based on a little girl named Annie who lives in an orphanage in New York City, where she was abandoned as a baby. She is determined to find her parents after wearing a locket that was given to her by them her whole life. The orphanage is run by Miss Hannigan who is a cruel bitter woman who has no love or empathy for any of the children. She gets adopted for Christmas by a Mr Oliver Warbucks where she finds a new family with him, his secretary Grace Farrell and his dog named Sandy.
